From Empty Nest to a Heartfelt Business: The Story of The Broken Plank

In 2017, life was changing for my husband and me. Our two sons were preparing to leave the nest, and with the house suddenly quieter, we found ourselves searching for a new purpose—something to fill the space that had once been bustling with their laughter and presence.

That’s when we turned to what we’ve always loved—creating. I had always had a passion for photography and graphic design, while my husband had a knack for woodworking. So, that Christmas, we decided to combine our skills and make handmade photo boards as gifts for our family. What started as a simple, heartfelt gesture quickly turned into something much bigger.

Our family and friends loved the gifts, and soon, word spread. We found ourselves making more and more, pouring our hearts into each piece. But back then, the process wasn’t easy—we relied on chemical transfer methods that were time-consuming and often unpredictable. Still, we kept going, fueled by the joy our creations brought to others.

As demand grew, we knew we had to improve our process while staying true to what made our pieces special. We invested in better equipment that allowed us to print directly on wood, eliminating the need for harsh chemicals while maintaining the rustic, handcrafted charm our customers loved.

Now, years later, The Broken Plank is still a small, family-run business in Dayton, Texas. Every item is crafted in our workshop with care, precision, and a personal touch. We take pride in offering something more than just a product—we create keepsakes that hold memories, pieces that bring comfort, and gifts that tell a story.

Through this journey, we've been blessed to connect with so many incredible people, hearing their stories and helping them preserve their most cherished moments. We are truly grateful for every order, every kind word, and every opportunity to create something meaningful for you.

From our family to yours—thank you for being a part of The Broken Plank. 💛
